Chiropractic Fair Pay bill passes House and Prior Authorization on its way to governor’s desk

Dr. Dave Butters

I have an an exciting update on our progress with ESSB 6157  (Prior Authorization) and ESB 5518 (Fair Pay).

ESSB 6157, the Prior Authorization bill that allows patients up to six consecutive visits of chiropractic care in a new episode of care without requiring prior authorization, passed the Washington State House 90-8. It’s now on its way to the Governor for signature. A new episode of care is treatment for a new or recurrent condition for which the enrollee has not been treated in the previous 90 days.

ESB 5518, the Chiropractic Fair Pay bill, passed the House 86-12 Wednesday, Feb. 28 and is back to the Senate for concurrence regarding a necessary technical language change in the House. We are cautiously confident and working on the Senate concurrence which must occur by Thursday March 8 at 5 p.m., after which ESB 5518 will also be sent to the Governor for signature.

Thank you to all of you who have called and or made trips to Olympia to meet with your legislators and who have worked the House and Senate Chamber doors with our lobbyist Lori Grassi.
